Next year is the centenary of Ayn Rand’s birth. The bumptious anti-intellectual with the short attention span had better watch out. At that time, I shall not only be "preoccupied" with Objectivism ... I shall be veritably obsessed with it! (Read more...)

You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream - the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order - or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. (Read more...)

Something I just saw on Larry King enabled me to retrieve some humour from a very black situation - a cluster of clerics from different religions assembled to answer the question, "Where was God on September 11?" The question itself, let alone the answers, sent me off into peals of laughter, & I could only regret that the estimable ecclesiastics had not chosen to appear in their fancy dress to complete the comedic appeal of this risible spectacle. The history of government in the Dominion of New Zealand is that of a long chain of abuses and usurpations of the individual rights of the citizenry, culminating in an unprecedented level of such abuses by present government, national and local, which have reduced the status of our people to one of slavery. Ownership of each citizen's life has been wrested from the citizen where it belongs and vested in government where it does not. (Read more...)

There are no atheists in a foxhole.” - Lieutenant General Lewis “Chesty” Puller, USMC

From the first day I was recruited into the military, I found another organization trying to recruit me: Christianity. No, not just any other religion, but Christianity in particular. I found this ironic since the First Amendment of the Constitution I swore to defend implies a separation of church and state. The last time I checked, the military was part of the state. Ayn Rand’s unique viewpoint manages to stir the awe and ire of both ends of the cultural spectrum in the United States.  Leftists admire her staunch atheism but remain horrified with her advocacy of laissez-faire capitalism.  Rightists adore her support of free markets yet detest her atheism.  Both sides miss a central... A key notion in Objectivist thought is the withholding of the sanction of the victim, the tacit compliance of a man with the violations of his own rights. It becomes evident that today's dismal political state, which will inevitably thrust itself into nearly every area of every man's private life, cannot be ignored or passively endured. Yet, with the assault occurring on so many fronts, how does one select one's battles in order to deal the enemy a critical blow, and what tactics are permissible in the undertaking of such endeavors?
